Electrolux, the major European enterprise in the sector of household appliances,
has a long tradition of top design management and currently employs some 30 full-time
designers in the Europe Design Centre, situated in Porcia, Italy. In March 2003,
the Electrolux Design Laboratory Project appealed to the students of 4 faculties
of design to make new product designs for future households within the four following
sectors: cooking, washing, freezing and dishwashing. Under the motto of 'make
life easier for the consumer', each university presented a series of products
to the Electrolux jury. Winning concepts will be developed into usable products
which will probably be launched around 2010.
Participating design schools:
- Italy: Politecnico di Milano
- Germany: Stuttgart State Academy for Art and Design
- Hungary: Hungarian University of Craft and Design
- France: Les Ateliers/ENSCI and National School of Industrial Ceramics
Some of the designs that will be displayed: 'folding cooker', 'Flamingo dishwasher', 'New water-saving Hygienic Centre'.
